Maths in primary school is a challenge – for parents as much as for children! We all want to support our children but so much has changed – the vocabulary as well as the concepts. Can we credibly help or are we making matters worse! We will be speaking to Maths Lead Teacher Lucille Feather from Fleetville Juniors, St Albans and Nick Yeldham from Manland School in Harpenden who has been involved in a number of Maths research projects with the NCETM (National Centre for the Excellence in Teaching of Mathematics) and Cambridge University. We will be talking about how maths is taught in school today and whether it is possible to inject a bit of fun into maths.
We will also speak to Jo Issa from Primary Maths, Oxford University Press.
Jo will be talking about what strategies OUP has for parents to support children with maths. We will also be asking for more information about Singapore Maths and its place in the UK curriculum.
